What exactly is an officer?
What are the usual duties of an officer in relation to the guild, it's leader and it's members?

From my experience, Inviting/recruiting, keeping the guild in order: Make sure no fights or so happen. Be a good role-model for new players... And then som more

depends on the guild really. For instance in my guild i have different officers do different things. I have 10 officers so 3 of them are the recruiting officers, 4 are PvE officers and 3 are PvP officers, so we can manage the guild thast 100 members. When i say recruiting officers, i mean officers that watch the behaviour of members and change them as required. Thats just an overview of what they do. They have to be friendly, interact with the guild, be willing to help, either financially or mission wise. But really it all comes down to the guild philosophy.

So if our philosophy was to help others out with their goals as well as our own. Then you would normally have officers helping newer and older members besides those who would recruit or other vital duties. Correct?

Thank you Murmel and Panais for sharing your knowledge. |

In GvG guilds an officer spot usually means you're a core player on the team.

Officers recruit, keep the guild in line, and really thats it. It's not that amazingly cool to be an officer.

As far as "officially" is concerned, the officers in a Guild have the ability to invite people into the Guild and to promote them (if I recall). Anything else that an officer does is purely up to the Guild (leader). There is no set rules on what an officer needs to do in a Guild. In my Guild, every active player is an "officer" and we don't do squat.

Most important. Lead by example.
A good officer must Have a good judge of character and skill Have a good grasp of the game and its mechanics Have the ability to gain control of a situation and be willing to help (be it a argument or anything else) Maintain a cool collected attitude even at the harshest of times. (if a officer or leader rage quit they should not be a officer or leader) |

It all depends on the guild. For most large organized guilds, the officers represent the guild's leadership. They are the inner council that decides the direction of the guild. They invite new members and kick out the troublemakers. They mentor new guildies and they organize guild events. They are active players that are usually required to contribute from their own time and resources to make the guild a success.
But that's for large organized guilds. Not every guild is like that. The guild leader has to decide what he wants in an officer and his decision is the only one that matters. - There are a lot of "kiddie" guilds that consist only of the guild leader and his friends. The only requirement for officer is being friends with the leader. As long as you remain his friend, you're an officer. - Some guilds make everyone an officer. No rank discrimination and nobody can kick anyone else. - Some guilds are super organized with officer positions being earned by activity and time in guild. Officers must be in the guild for at least a year and active every day or every other day. Bottom line: an officer is whatever your guild leader says it is. |
